01. Television
Television is a wonderful gift
of modern science. Nowadays it is a popular medium of mass communication. It
has brought a remarkable change in human life. It has become a good companion
to the lonely people and a friend to the friendless. It is now a part and
parcel of everyday life.
The word ‘television comes
from the Latin words ‘tale’ and vision’. The term’ tele’ means distance and
‘vision’ means sight. In a word, television means a sight from distance. It is
somewhat different from a radio. From a radio we only get the voice of the
speaker. On the other hand, we get both the voice and the picture of the
speaker from a television.
At first the thought of
sending a picture to a distant place came in the mind of Paul Nipkow, a German
scientist. But John Bayard, an English scientist was able to give this thought
a real shape. As a result, we got television.
The function of a television
is mainly completed through two parts. One is transmitter that changes the
picture into electro-magnetic, wave. Another is the antenna that catches this
wave from air. Then we get the picture.
Television is very useful to
modern culture and civilization. we can get various news throughout the world
sitting at home. Political leaders can also form public opinion fashions and
culture of the people of different parts of the world.
Television is a great source
of recreation. We enjoy drama, dance , music and songs through it. Nowadays we
need not go to stadium to enjoy a game like football, cricket, tennis etc. We
can enjoy a live tale-cast of them sitting at home.
Television plays an important
role in education. It is being used to teach the students and illiterate
people. It also arranges special programmers for children, woman workers any soldiers.
Television is blessing but it
is also harm. Young boys and girls pay their attention so much on it that they
forget about their studies which is their main duty. Furthermore, there is also
a risk of intrusions of western culture into our culture through satellite TV.
Really, the television is the
magic of the age. In a developing country like ours, importance of television
cannot be ignored. So government should try to make it available among all
classes of people. However, it can be noted that Television plays an important
role in our modern life.
02. A village fair
A villge fair is a fair which
is held in a village. The people living in a village have no entertainments
except the fairs. It is an important event in the life of the villagers. It is
a great source of recreation.
A village fair is a
traditional occasion of village life. It is an annual festival in a country. It
breaks the monotony of their life. People enjoy it most heartily. The dusky
village chidren enjoy themselves.
A village fair sits in an open
field or at a market place. It also sits at the bank of a river or canal.
A village fair is commonly
held once a year. It is generally held on the occasion of a religious festival
or on the Bengali New Year’s Day. It lasts for a day or a week.
In a village fair toys,
baskets, cosmetics, dolls etc. are sold . There are some special attractions in
a village fair. The most attractive items are circus parties, Jatra parties ,
magic show etc. These give entertainments to the children and adult people.
Children buy toys, kites flutes and sweetmeats in a village fair. A village fair
has some demerits too. Sometimes gamblers also play gambling. It harms to the
youth . Pick picketers also take opportunity in the crowd.
Inspite of having some
demerits, it has some educative and traditional values. It bears the testimony
of the tradition.
To sum up, a village fair is a
large gathering of rural people. It brings joys to the rural people.

Subject: For a Re-construction
of a Road.
Sir,
With due respect, we beg to
state that we are the inhabitants of Haroya. Here live about 5 thousands of
people in this village. But it is a matter of great sorrow that the recent
flood has destroyed a vital road of our area. The road has connected five
villages with the district road. The businessmen use this road for carrying
their goods to the town. The students use this road for going to schools and
colleges. It is quite impossible to carry the patients to the district
hospital. Now the road is so damaged that no vehicles can move on this road. As
a result, we are suffering much. Now repairing the road is mandatory.
May we, therefore, pray and
hope that you would be kind enough to take necessary steps to re-construct the
road.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. Arman.
On behalf of the inhabitants
of Haroya under Nilphamari Sador Upazila

01. My favourite food.
Food is very important for our
body because we cannot live without it. We should eat nutritious food. It must
contain natural elements that our body needs to grow properly. My favorite food
is custard. It is very easy to prepare. I can prepare it myself. Often I have
it in the evening. We need to drink milk everyday. Milk is rich in calcium.
It’s good for our healthy growth. It makes our bones and teeth strong. We must
eat fruits. They contain a lot of vitamins and minerals. They keep our body
free from dieses. They are also good for our skin and health. In order to make
custard, we need milk and some kinds of fruits, such as Mango, Banana, Apple
etc, So, Custard is very delicious as well as nutritious. I like to take it
very much
Dialogue:
01. Write a dialogue with your
friend Nabila on traffic jam in your country.
Myself: Hello, Fatim, how are
you?
Fatin: I’m ok. But I cannot
think of living in Dhaka any more.
Myself: Why, any problem?
Fatin: Really days are getting worse.
Myself: What are you telling
about?
Fatin: Traffic Jam. Can you think how disgusting it
is?
Myself: Oh! Really disgusting.
I needed two hours to reach from Jatrabari to Dhanmondi .
Fatin: Can you think it? What a boring city it is!
Myself: It’s one of the main
problem of Dhaka.
Fatin: People are disgusted.
Myself: There’s no rule in the
city. Drivers stop bus here and there.
Fatin: More than that is the un-experienced drivers.
Myself: How can we get rid of
it?
Fatin: We have to tolerate it.
Myself: Really we are unlucky.
Fatin: Don’t be so disheartened. Our Govt. is trying
their best.
Myself: Ok. Let’s be hopeful.
Fatin: Nothing to do. Thank you for your witty
argument.
Myself: You’re welcome.
